Vint Hill Craft Winery
Vint Hill Craft Winery has a fascinating backstory.
In the early twentieth century, it was a dairy farm. The owner was also a ham radio operator, and he managed to pick up weird German signals on his radio one day.
He contacted the authorities, and it was soon determined that the dairy farm was the ideal geographical location for intercepting German signals during WWII.
The government arrived and began working from the upper level of the dairy farm, even dressing up as dairy farmers to fit in and avoid suspicion.
The site effectively served as the first NSA.
It was a functioning military base until 1992.
Former military barracks are among the adjacent structures.
The location is not as attractive as many Virginia vineyards, but it makes up for it with history.
You may even visit the Cold War Museum next door to the winery. There are two cafes and a brewery close as well.
They have a wide range of wines available, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Merlot.
